In Spring Steve Whitwam our Commercial Director will be taking part in a charity bike ride from Thailand to Laos supporting the removal of landmines and live ordnance from around the globe!
Every day, around the world, 19 people are killed or injured by landmines or unexploded bombs and half of the civilian casualties are children. Women, men and children are living with the daily threat from these indiscriminate killers, unable to farm, attend school or play outside without fear. MAG have recently started working in Ukraine with a combination of methods and tools to detect and destroy cluster bombs and other unexploded weapons.
Between 24th March and 2nd April 2023, a team of 30 people from the UK Convenience and Wholesale retail sector will be taking on the Thai-Laos Cycle Challenge. Steve is one of those 30 that have signed up to ride over 400 kilometres, up gruelling hills, down dusty, gravel tracks and in the intense heat of Southeast Asia and the team is doing all this to raise funds for MAG (Mines Advisory Group). You can read more about the great work MAG do here.
This team will ride so that MAG can find, remove and destroy even more of these deadly items from places affected by conflict and provides risk education programmes so that people can live, work, travel and play as safely as possible until the land is cleared.
Please donate generously to give Steve and the team a boost and help them smash the target and also reach the milestone of £1million raised for MAG since the rides started in 2015!
By sponsoring Steve and the team today, you are helping MAG to save lives and build futures around the world in countries from Angola to Zimbabwe.
