Who or what inspired you to start Hogs Bottom?
With years of experience in the catering industry, Malcolm started making the most of the fruit growing at the bottom of his garden creating unique chutneys, jams and flavoured vinegar’s. The discovery of hedgehogs living under the fruit bushes prompted the name Hogs Bottom. Starting with sales at local shows and markets demand for Hogs Bottom products grew and soon production had to move into purpose-built premises where new flavours and products were developed making the most of local produce.
What makes Hogs Bottom products unique?
It is our view that there will always be a place and a healthy demand for Hogs Bottom products which deliver their own unique flavour profiles, reminiscent of the handmade recipes created in the kitchens of the past and the present and lovingly marketed reflecting the individuality of each product sold and consumed!
It has been our experience that taste sampling our products would lead to securing an order, providing the product selection presented suitably profiles the customers business!
Our Real Ale Chutney is made using locally brewed ale from the beautiful Dartmoor National Park. It is delicious with cold meats, cheese, in a ploughman’s or a sandwich. It can also be used to cover the base of a quiche, as a canape with any cheese wrapped in filo pastry and baked or fried. It makes a flavoursome addition to a pork pies and can be added to a mixture of vegetables before roasting to create a delicious vegetarian option.
What new initiatives or innovative ways is Hogs Bottom using to produce is products today?
Each batch of our Real Ale Chutney is handmade by our expert staff ensuring each one reaches the quality expected from a Hogs Bottom product.
While always stocking our main sellers we are refreshing and adding to the range to give the customer more choice allowing them to have a point of difference listed over their competition!
